On April 20-21, 2020, nine peer reviewers appointed by the Higher Learning Commission will review the Ann Arbor campus to evaluate the quality of our educational environment.
Given the rapidly evolving situation surrounding COVID-19, we are conducting the HLC accreditation review fully remotely. The peer review team will not come to campus, and all U-M participants will join the discussion online or by phone.
We are working swiftly to identify online tools that will enable interactive dialogue in an accessible format. As soon as we have confirmed the best options, we will share that information along with resources to ensure participants are comfortable engaging remotely.
The agenda will include several open fora in which students, faculty, and staff can provide feedback on topics related to the HLC’s Criteria for Accreditation, particularly how we engage with our mission and pursue our work with integrity, how we approach student learning and assessment, and how we evaluate our own effectiveness and plan for the future. The peer review team will also host an open Q & A session.
Links to access the fora and Q & A session will be posted here on the accreditation website in the days prior to the review.
How to Prepare for the Review
Prior to the review dates, members of the U-M community can read the 2020 accreditation report and participate in an one-hour online workshop:
Thursday, April 16
2:00 – 3:00 PM
Friday, April 17
10:00 – 11:00 AM
Workshops will provide background regarding the institutional reaccreditation process and includes discussions on mission and integrity; teaching and learning excellence and continuous improvement; and resources, planning, and institutional effectiveness. Both workshops will include the same format and information.
While these workshops are entirely optional, all U-M community members who will be participating in the accreditation review are encouraged to attend.
